Come to My Village
Are you up for a one-week mission trip? What
about a lifetime overseas? Or something in between perhaps -- two or
three years of walking the crowded city streets in West Africa or
living in a Malian village? Invest a week, a few years, or your life
in the Bambara people. You can find current requests for short,
medium and long-term missionaries at www.gowestafrica.org.
What will you find when you arrive? There will
be a team to welcome you, fellow missionaries who will walk along
side you and mentor you. There will be millions of Bambara men and
women, some of whom will invite you to take a seat in their
courtyards. They'll offer you tea and a meal -- millet and sauce --
and you'll eat it with your hand. You'll see lostness, poverty and
loyalty in Mali. You'll see the extraordinary bond among extended
families, and you'll find the friendship of some of the kindest
people on earth.
Mali is a hard place to live or to visit. Flies buzz.
Mosquitoes bite. Step out of the city and you'll find a land without
electricity, running water or proper latrines. There isn't much
beauty in the land of Mali. If you are looking for beauty, try
looking at the faces of the people you'll meet here. |
